We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with Pop and both days he was MUCH more alert than the previous one. They hooked him up to a saline IV to give him fluids and that helped his dehydration that was contributing to his drowsiness. It turns out he is on lasiks which are good to prevent excess water retention and high blood pressure, but you need to be sure to drink fluids.
We all ate an early Christmas dinner at Kessler, and there were local volunteers helping to hand out food. There was even a pianist, who helped brighten the mood by playing some casual holiday dinner music.
He was in great spirits and he seemed like his old self. He was joking, making sarcastic comments, and smiled so wide when he first saw Ben. It was really encouraging.
12/27 updates -----------------
Yesterday, Pop was very disoriented and it was a huge step backwards from the previous two days. The nurses were concerned enough to order him get a cat-scan at Overlook hospital today to rule out the possibility that he has had another minor stroke. We'll keep you updated.
Love,
Jason
